A contemporary artist of Indian origin, Sunaina Bhalla has been trained as a textile designer specializing in print. She also holds a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from Goldsmith’s College, University of London, Lasalle College of the Arts, Singapore.
In the late 90’s she moved to Tokyo and spent 5 years in Japan dedicatedly studying Nihonga, a traditional form of painting under Ohta-sensei of the Kyoshin-Do school. As part of her current work that explores the notion of trauma and healing, the artist has researched traditional curative practices in India with a focus on Ayurveda and natural treatments.
Bhalla has exhibited her work extensively in Japan, Singapore, India, the Middle East and Europe. Several artworks are in several private international collections, like the permanent collection of the ESSL Museum in Vienna and public domains such as the Mumbai Airports Authority in India. The artist currently lives and works in Singapore.
