Rahul Kumar is a visual artist, curator, and art journalist based in Delhi. Rahul has been working with the medium of clay for over twenty-four years. He completed his Master's in the United States on a Fulbright Scholarship and subsequently received the Charles Wallace Award to study in the United Kingdom. He has had several solo shows across the world at galleries like Threshold Art Gallery, and Cymroza Art Gallery. He has had his work featured at the National Gallery of Modern Art in Delhi, the India Art Fair, the India Habitat Centre, and the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art. He is a three-time recipient of the AIFACS National Award. In 2014 he received the Junior Fellowship for Excellence in the Field of Visual Arts by the Government of India. He has also been the subject of academic essays by Kishore Singh, Roobina Karode, Aman Nath, and Keshav Malik.
Rahul retired from the corporate world after having spent significant time with global consulting and business research organizations. He is currently the consulting editor and columnist with leading art and design publications and a writer for a national newspaper on art and culture. Rahul employs clay as a medium to investigate the politics of form and to construct narratives through a textured interplay of space and scale. Materiality and aesthetics are important in Rahul's work. He employs patches and grids, as well as bold, heavily textured surfaces, to explore the unpredictability of clay through the sheer process.
